Talk:All The Young Dudes

There's a couple copies of All The Young Dudes being sold on the book patch. I'm not sure if they're legitimate or should be added, but I thought to at least say it. https://app.thebookpatch.com/BookStore/all-the-young-dudes-/3ae7f80e-8aca-4068-962b-f50dab47090f https://app.thebookpatch.com/BookStore/all-the-young-dudes-/62d966c1-a8d1-4d85-9333-451e56df085e https://app.thebookpatch.com/BookStore/all-the-young-dudes-/d01aa050-a527-492a-918a-198dc165eb16 https://app.thebookpatch.com/BookStore/all-the-young-dudes-/10185c92-be76-4d6a-88a2-376106818b58 (I know this last one's fan-sold) -- Sobqjmv sphinx (talk), 8 Dec 2022, 16:11 EST

Hits?

I couldn't help but want to check out the claim about this being the first fic to have 2 million hits on AO3, and I'm wondering if we have any kind of cite for this or way to show it? The fic has way, way more than 2 million hits now but also a lot of other fics have 2mil+ so it would be good to have some evidence of this being the first if we can. I realise that might be difficult though.

The other thing is that the wording doesn't really make sense now that the fic has 9mil+ hits - could we reword it to "In April 2021, it became the first English-language work..." and also mention that it has the highest number of overall hits on AO3 (since that's an even stronger claim to fame)? I know it's about to be a Featured Article, so if we agree on the changes I can reflect them in the excerpt. --enchantedsleeper (talk) 00:42, 6 February 2023 (UTC)

I can't find a source for the 2 million hits, have found a reddit thread that talks about the most popular fics, and the Slate article mentions it is at 7 million hits at that point. I'll keep digging -- Kingstoken (talk) 00:51, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
Okay according to the Wayback Machine they are probably right about them hitting 2 million hits in Apirl 2021, this is a screenshot in March 2021 when the fic had reached 1.6 million https://web.archive.org/web/20210312051315/https://archiveofourown.org/works/10057010/chapters/22409387 and another in August 2021 when it had gone up to 3.2 million https://web.archive.org/web/20210804135049/https://archiveofourown.org/works/10057010/chapters/22409387 That being said I unfortunately can't confirm if it was the first English work to do so -- Kingstoken (talk) 00:59, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the fast investigative work! I think that's enough for a note to be appended. We can also cite the article's own edit history as a data point! --enchantedsleeper (talk) 01:02, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
