Supernatural is a genre related to Horror, Fantasy, and Science Fiction. Wikipedia defines it as "a literary genre exploiting or requiring as plot devices or themes some contradictions of the commonplace natural world and materialist assumptions about it."[1] It also used to describe TV shows and films, as well as fiction. See also the Encyclopedia of Fantasy. Supernatural horror is a major subgenre of horror.

The term is used in many fandoms to indicate whether a fanwork's genre has supernatural elements, such as ghosts, witches, werewolves, other werecreatures, etc, without the fear that the genre horror uses.

The supernatural genre may also be used in archives, to classify fan fiction into literary genres like they do for romance, fluff, and adventure.
