Spot Conlon is a Manhattan newsboy in Newsies.
Canon
Spot leads the Brooklyn newsies. In the film, he uses a slingshot and carries a cane. Most of the Manhattan newsboys are afraid of him.
In the 2023 West End production of Newsies, Spot is played by a woman.

Fandom
Name
Like Racetrack Higgins, Spot is now typically given a "real" personal name by the fandom (in Spot's case "Sean"), but this has not been nearly as universal as "Anthony" for Race. Everything You've Done Wrong is the primary source of the name, but it appeared in 2001 on Kendall's Newsies Page.[1] Spot has also been called Thomas,[2] Michael,[3] Seamus[4] and Liam,[5] among many others. One fan theorized that the name Sean comes from Shawn Hunter from Boy Meets World.[6]
Patrick
Patrick is a character who appears only by name in the 1999 Newsies film, during the song "Carrying the Banner," where his mother sings to the Manhattan newsboys. A popular fan theory argues that Spot is Patrick,[7] often on the basis of the fact that he is not a Manhattan newsboy, and thus would not hear her.[8] This theory appeared as early as 1997, in Hauvah's "You Can Run But You Can't Hide,"[9] and 1998, in Jennifer Cardinali's "Paramour Prisoner."[10] Another fanwork featuring the theory appeared on Fanfiction.net in 2002.[11]
