slightly losing my mind over this bookmark is tumblr post by singlecrow that sparked discussion of recipes in fanfic
The Post
Singlecrow posted a screenshot of an AO3 bookmark with the caption "slightly losing my mind over this bookmark". The bookmark was made by indigostohelit of the fic A Steady Grip by AlchemyAlice. The fic is rated E and has tags and summary mostly about BDSM and kink, but the bookmarker's note simply says "reads "Relatively easy potato-leek soup recipe at the end of Chapter 7."

Responses
- over 20k notes on Tumblr as of May 2024, include 8k reblogs. Like singlecrow, many other fans were amused by the juxtaposition between the kink advertised and the tags/summary and the sfw reason that indigostohelit apparently bookmarked the fic.
- lots of people sharing other fics with good recipes in the notes:

there’s a marvel fic somewhere with a double chocolate chip cookie recipe as the second chapter[1]

My favorite part of reading fics is when fics have like opinions on food. Especially if they are strong opinions. A simple way of getting w glimpse at whoever wrote it, sharing their joy and love for this particular dish or this specific way of making it that i might not know about. Its quite lovely. I read one thilbo fic where Bilbo had very strong opinions about how to make correct scrambled eggs. It has been two years and i still do my eggs this way cause i got curious about this way, tried it and then loved it so much i changed my way of making scrambled eggs. I got a lovely recipe for a french apple pie from an overwatch fic a few years ago, had to alter one ingredient since i cant have alcohol so now im known for a jasmine tea apple pie all because of a fic. I love it[3]
- lots of people asking hey-there-hunter and others for the recipes they got from fics.
More recipes from fic:
- people discussing other useful things they might get from fic as an aside/outside the intended purpose of the story:
