spectralarchers is a fan creator mostly active on Tumblr. They joined Tumblr in March 2011. They are mostly active fandoms related to the MCU, focusing especially on Clint Barton as a character. They have written several National Novel Writing Month fanfics focusing on Hawkeye, but are mostly known for their "constructed reality" gifsets.[1]
Relationship with Fandom
spectralarchers first began making gifsets in August 2012 with a gifset focusing on Cabinlock, a crossover between Cabin Pressure and Sherlock BBC.[2]. They made their first Marvel focused gifset in May 2013.[3]
As of June 2022, they have created over 270 gifsets with Clint Barton. They began making animatic gifsets with "fake deleted scenes" shortly after the premiere of The Avengers and the lack of acknowledgement of Hawkeye as a character in the MCU fandom.
Fancast becomes canon
On May 14th, 2014, spectralarchers created a gifset of Clint Barton and Kate Bishop and used actress Hailee Steinfeld as a fancast for the character of Kate Bishop.[4] This is one of the earliest instances where Hailee Steinfeld was used as a fancast for Kate Bishop, prior to being announced as the official actress for the role in 2020.[5]
Fancast becomes fanon
Since May 2014, spectralarchers has been using Daniel Craig as a fancast for the character of Barney Barton.[6] The fancast has since been adopted across the general Clint Barton fandom and used by other fanartists. [7][8][9][10]
