Shauna Shipman/Jackie Taylor is a fanon femslash pairing in the Yellowjackets fandom. Their canon relationship is the subject of much debate and speculation, but at the very least an intense, borderline co-dependent friendship. The fandom are split on interpretations of the pair's relationship, which leads to a lot of online discussions.
Canon
Jackie and Shauna are initially portrayed as close friends. However, events later in season one reveal that there has been a simmering resentment of sorts from Shauna towards Jackie, and that Shauna had been sleeping with Jackie's boyfriend, Jeff, prior to the plane crash. In the adult timeline, Shauna is married to Jeff and has a daughter with him.
After the plane crash, Jackie struggles to cope and tensions begin to grow between Shauna and Jackie (as well as between Jackie and other survivors). This culminates in an argument with Shauna at the end of season one that sees Jackie exiled from the cabin. She freezes to death overnight and is found by a devastated Shauna the next morning. The guilt Shauna feels about this are very present in her adult story-line as she regularly hallucinates Jackie (the same age as she died) and continues to visit Jackie's parents even 25 years after the plane crash.
In season two, the survivors end up eating Jackie's body, after an attempt to give her a funeral pyre of sorts ends up less cremating her and more...cooking her. This was their first step into the cannibalism in the wilderness.
Fandom
Different fans in different social media spaces are very split on the nature of the relationship between Jackie and Shauna. Some are adamant that they were in love with each other. Other fans say that they think Shauna was in love with Jackie but it definitely wasn't reciprocated while others argue the complete opposite, that Jackie was the one in love and Shauna didn't return those feelings. Other fans saw no romantic chemistry or subtext between the two, while others think that it was deliberately left unstated and vague.
However, the pairing of Jackie/Shauna has become a popular one in fandom all the same. It is widely discussed on Tumblr and Reddit, and is currently the most popular pairing in the Yellowjackets AO3 page, with 740 works.
Fan Commentary
(overview of fans' reactions to the ship, including relevant quotes from both within and outside the fandom)
Whether it was intentional or not, their relationship was one of the BEST depictions of the particularly codependent and intense relationship that happens between two girls who are closeted/unsure of their feelings/end up being interested in women. Often you only realize what the fuck was happening there when you look back as an adult and see that you had the same rise and fall as a romantic relationship. Jealously, intense fights, true break ups that are different than platonic close friendships. Doing dumb self destructive shit. All of it. And I’m sorry but the way they look at each other (especially Jackie at Shauna) is at the very least NOT “sisterly” lol. I think there has been some push back from the actresses because there were concerns about the overlooking of Van and Tai’s explicit relationship.
Jackie/Shauna not being explicitly specified to be in love with each other despite it being overwhelmingly obvious that that is the case is an homage to the late-90s Hays-code-aftermath era of obviously gay love stories that could not be acknowledged, and can never be acknowledged since their relationship is permanently stuck in that era and cannot progress past it. They will always been in 1996, they will always be in the woods. In this essay I will

Controversies
There has been some frustration voiced by fans of the canonical pairing Vanessa "Van" Palmer/Taissa Turner, that parts of the fandom completely ignore the canonical sapphic representation in the show in preference of Jackie/Shauna. This can particularly annoy Tai/Van fans when their tags are used on AO3 or in social media spaces, despite the fanwork or meta not being about them at all (See also: background pairing)
