It was published in the print zine KSX #1.

Summary

"Spock interrogates the M/U Kirk and finds out that he and his Spock are lovers, leading to a confrontation with his own Kirk."

Reactions and Reviews

"Shadow Play", by Robin Hood, presents a conversation between the mirror Kirk and our Spock before the former is returned to his own universe. Kirk ends up revealing that he and his Spock have a sexual relationship, which is difficult for our Spock to handle. Later, after the mirror Kirk is returned, Spock and our Kirk have a confrontation. I found this story interesting at first, but ended up feeling like I had read two different stories. I didn't agree with the way Spock became very aggressive in spots, then became very gentle. I was puzzled by the change in tone and the way the story seemed to lose its seriousness near the end. [1]

SHADOW PLAY by Robin Hood is one of her drop- dead sexy stories—this one an encounter between our Spock and Mirror Kirk before he's returned to his universe, then the results of that encounter between our Spock and Kirk. Boy! And what results! Kirk comes on to Spock and then Spock comes on to Kirk and then they have sex—great sex—really great sex. Uh oh.

There was a line that Mirror Kirk says that I thought was really funny: "If that's the way you want it, I'll buy that...when Vulcans suck cock in public!"

I really enjoyed the in-your-face Mirror Kirk as Robin often writes so well. But that sex scene...that really great sex scene [2]

A post-"Mirror, Mirror" story. During the mirror-Kirk's sojurn on the U. S. S. ENTERPRISE, Spock has a private talk with him. Of course, this leads to predictable results when his Kirk is back. Nothing very new, but the sex scene is very stimulating! [3]

Spock takes advantage of the Mirror Kirk’s presence in our universe to ask some of the questions that have been plaguing him. He finds that their Mirror counterparts have been lovers for a year.

Robin writes one sexy love scene in this story. Part of what makes it work so well is that the tension built up between Mirror Kirk and Spock is never resolved. When our Kirk returns to the Enterprise, he tells Spock that his Mirror counterpart made love to him, but stopped when he discovered Kirk was not his captain. Spock finds the courage to take what he has longed for since the beginning of their relationship, and the tension that has continued to build during their confrontation finally is allowed to proceed to its rightful conclusion.

An excellent early story from one of our K/S treasures.[4]

Shadow Play by Robin Hood explores the conversations that might have occurred between Spock and the Mirror Universe‘s Kirk while aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. This is typical of the author‘s unique take on the K/S relationship. [5]
