Seinen (青年 literally young years or youth) is a category of manga/anime marketed to men, typically 18-30 years old. It is one of the four main categories of manga/anime along with shounen (for boys), shoujo (for girls), and josei (for women).

Seinen, like shounen, often focuses on action, sports, science fiction, fantasy, relationships, or comedy. Seinen, like josei, is aimed at adults, and is more likely to be sexually explicit and involve erotica and abuse. It is more likely to contain more mature storytelling and themes such as graphic violence, horror, and politics.

Popular seinen series include Berserk, Black Lagoon, Bungou Stray Dogs, Gantz, Ookiku Furikabutte, Elfen Lied, Oh my Goddess!, Hellsing, and Tokyo Ghoul.

Though marketed towards men, some seinen manga/anime have fanbases which are younger and/or have a higher percentage of women than their target audience.
