Short Canon Description
From For Those Who Came in Late #1:
In some ways, this spy/adventure show with strong undertones of romance and comedy, set in Washington, D.C., is the ultimate "Mary Sue" story.
[...]
In the case of this series, the premise is that an ordinary housewife (Mrs. Amanda King) is thrust into the exciting world of spies, danger and international intrigue. She brings with her the qualities of common sense, humor and an ability to think quickly on her feet.
She is teamed with an agent-partner (Lee "Scarecrow" Stetson) who is reticent to accept her, and who sees her lifestyle and lack of experience as both totally alien to him and a serious drain on his ability to do his job. Lee, whose parents both were killed when he was very young, was raised by his uncle, a colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He grew up at various military bases around the world — and, although it gave him a worldly sense, it denied him the kind of warm, home-oriented family life that Amanda represents. He describes himself as a loner, especially since his last partner was killed "taking a bullet in the head" — a bullet that was meant for Lee. He dates frequently, usually one-night stands with gorgeous but shallow women.
The show proceeds, over the next 88 episodes, to explore how these two very different central characters come to work with each other, trust and respect each other, and eventually fall in love with each other.
Major supporting characters included Dotty West, Amanda's somewhat ditsy mother; Philip and Jamie, Amanda's sons; Billy Melrose, Amanda and Lee's supervisor at "The Agency"; and Francine Desmond, a knock-out blonde co-worker at The Agency who considers herself very professional and who sneers at Amanda's background as a housewife.
