Santa Claus (also known within popular culture as Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas or Kris Kringle, and many other names within media) is a mythical/legendary character who's role is to fly around the world on Christmas Eve depositing gifts to 'nice' children, and sometimes 'coal' to those deemed 'naughty'.

Akin to other characters with their own long history of folklore such as Robin Hood, Santa has appeared in many pieces of fiction. Many of these texts gain fandoms or evoke the creation of fanworks. In other cases, Santa can often feature in fanworks as an original interpretation for fandoms in which no prior appearance had occurred.

Santa's most prominant appearance is that of a white heterosexual cisgender man with a white beard, wearing a red and white suit and bobble hat. Criticism of this hegemonic portrayal will sometimes occur, and subversions within both the media and fandoms have arisen.
