Sangyao is the slash ship between Nie Huaisang and Jin Guangyao from the Mo Dao Zu Shi novel and adaptations.
Nie Huaisang and Meng Yao's relationship used to be good when he lived at the Unclean Realm as Nie Mingjue's general. Both seemed to be fond of each other, even after Meng Yao's defection and later recognition as a war hero, despite Meng Yao's (Now Jin Guangyao) complicated relationship with Nie Mingjue. After his brother's death and Nie Huaisang's rise as sect leader of the Nie Clan, he frequently travels to visit Jin Guangyao for advice and moral support, while secretly orchestating his fall in a long and elaborate plan.

On April 2024, the organizers of the Sangyao Week posted a mini-tourney on Tumblr[1] and Twitter[2] to decide on the unofficial Sangyao theme song. The eight songs were nominated by the members of the Sangyao discord server. As the polls ran paralell on both Tumblr and Twitter, there was two winners. "Shrike" by Hozier won the Tumblr tourney and "Fishtail" by Lana del Rey won the Twitter one.
