Shuralos is the slash pairing between Capricorn Shura and Sagittarius Aiolos in the Saint Seiya fandom. One of the reasons they are shippsd is because of their tragic backstory in canon where Shura had to assassinate him, following the usurper Pope's orders. This scene has been depicted with more or less variations in several spin-offs, like Netflix Knights of the Zodiac or Legend of Sanctuary movie. Before the incident, they were temple neighbours and fellow gold saints.

Fandom

Despite having nearly one hundred fanworks in AO3, the tag is however frequently used for fanfics where Shuralos is just a side dish of the main course, usually an add-on to Camilo, Mushaka or other highly popular ships. When using the filter "otp: true" which leaves out every story where Shuralos isn't the main ship, the number of the stories is almost halved. Shuralos is also the most popular ship with Shura.

Common tropes in fanworks

  • Angst: In many works, Shura used to look up to Aiolos, thus suffering when he believed him to be a traitor and had to end his life. As Shura was, in the end, wrong about this, feelings of guilt are also common. It may, or may not, involve Aiolia, Aiolos' brother, as the incident caused him to live in shame for the years to come.
  • Canon Divergence: Fanworks where the outcome of Athena's attempted happens differently, for example, Aiolos escaping or Shura siding with him instead.
  • Reincarnation: In some works, and due to their physical smilarities, Shura and Aiolos are a reincarnation of El Cid and Sisyphus, the Capricorn and Sagittarius saints from the previous Holy War in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas.
  • Fluff
  • Pope Aiolos AU.
  • Anti Pope Aiolos AU: Based on Episode G
  • Resurrection: It is a very popular trope in the Saint Seiya fandom to have all the characters resurrected at the end of the series and have them live a normal life. As both characters end up dying, these stories explore their relationship in the new chance at living.
