- Enemies to Lovers: in early canon Rowena and Sam were antagonistic, and very reluctant allies, so fic written in this period often had an enemies to lovers vibe, and sometimes included hatesex
- Magic: a lot of fanworks feature them experimenting with magic, sometimes Rowena takes on a mentor or teacher role in these narratives, and sometimes they are working together as equals to solve supernatural problems
- King and Queen of Hell: after Rowena became Queen of Hell in the early part of season 15, it was not uncommon to find fanworks where Sam was Rowena's consort, or they ruled Hell together
- Threesome or Poly: although rare, the most popular character to include in these fanworks is Gabriel, with whom Rowena had a brief canonical sexual relationship
