Rose’s sexuality is a point of tension in fandom. While she canonically experiences attraction towards women, fans often clash over whether or not she is canonically a lesbian or bisexual. Fans who make the argument that she’s canonically a lesbian[1][2] point towards her only having an in-text relationship with Kanaya Maryam, Jasprosesprite^2 referring to herself as a "lesbionic casanova” in Homestuck^2[3], and Andrew Hussie referring to Rose as a lesbian in Homestuck book commentary[4]. Fans who make the argument that she’s canonically bisexual[5][6][7] point towards moments where they interpret her as flirting with male characters[8], and Andrew Hussie implying “something happened between" Doomed Rose and Davesprite in Homestuck book commentary[9]. Other fans take the stance that Rose is neither canonically lesbian or bisexual[10][11]. The divide caused by this discourse can be seen in ship communities being unwelcoming to people that share an opposing view on Rose’s sexuality[12].
