Renaissance Alliance Publishing (short: RAP) was a publisher of lesbian original fiction that published several Xena/Gabrielle uber novels. This publishing house grew out of the alt fanfic part of the Xena fandom.
The formation and opening of Renaissance Alliance Publishing was officially announced on July 1, 1999, and the company was incorporated on July 26, 1999. This company was founded by a group of friends who had a passion for reading and a love of good stories. That’s what the “alliance” in the name stands for–friends allied together. There was little capital and a whole lot of faith. The first authors came from online communities, writers of a genre known as fan fiction. The first book was published in November 1999. Renaissance Alliance Publishing, Inc. assumed its current form when the divisions were set up in January 2000. It was decided that imprints for specific genres were needed in order to better compete in today’s market. The company currently has separate imprints for romance, alternative romance, sci-fi/fantasy, action-adventure/murder/mystery, and poetry. All books that do not fall into a specific category are published under the RAP imprint.[1]
