Remus/Tonks is a pairing in Harry Potter fandom, popular after the release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and confirmed as canon after Half-Blood Prince.

Pre-HBP

The early one-shot fanfic A Test of Wills, or Flirting for the Social Inept by HRHBunbury, published July 2003,[2] has been credited for much of the pre-Half-Blood Prince support for the pairing. One fan writes that it "probably kicked off the Remus/Tonks ship."[3]

Post-HBP

The fan reaction to Remus/Tonks in canon was quite varied. While many Remus/Sirius shippers were upset that Remus ended up with someone other than Sirius, others didn't see necessarily see Remus/Tonks as contradiction Remus/Sirius. On the other hand, while most Remus/Tonks shippers were thrilled to see the pairing become canon, other disliked the way it was handled.[4] There was also much debate on the appropriateness of Tonks' behavior throughout the book, and particularly on her confrontation of Remus right after Dumbledore's death.[5] However, there were elements of a minor Ship War between Remus/Tonks and Remus/Sirius shippers and many essays were written on the topic.[6]
