PerlaNegra was a popular and prolific Mexican fanwriter and fantranslator, active since 2005-6 until 2022. She passed away (due to unknown causes to the public) on October 15, 2022[1]. She wrote and translated mainly for the Harry Potter fandom, with 92 of 162 stories being Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter, although she occasionally also wrote for other fandoms such as the MCU.

I've been writing and translating fanfiction since 2005. I'm most likely the same age as your mother.... and I'm not kidding!

I'm a Potterhead at heart and a Drarry lover, which means I firmly believe that Harry and Draco could live a thousand different lives and in all of them they would end up falling in love. I work to prove it in every story I (sometimes) have time to write.

Some of my stories are translations I've made from English fics (with permission from the original authors) and the rest are my own fics. My stories ALWAYS have a happy ending. If it's not like that or it's open, I'll warn at the beginning.

Other fandoms I'm involved in:

-️MARVEL (movies and comicbooks). Ships: Stony, Cherik, Thorki, Starker, Spideytorch, Spideypool.

️-SHERLOCK (the BBC series, movies and books). Johnlock.

-SPN. Destiel, eventhough Dean makes me angry.

-️Good Omens, Kimetsu No Yaiba, Hawaii Five-0 and random things like that.[2]

As a fan

She started in fandom translating two Drarry fanfictions by Emma Grant, "Left my Heart" and its sequel "Surrender the Grey", and published those translations on SlasHeaven[3]. PerlaNegra was a pillar in the Harry Potter fandom having been a translator, thus connecting Spanish and English-speaking fans.

She was one of the first Spanish-speaking fanwriters to make an account and post her fanfictions and translations on AO3, on the year 2009.

Positive Fan Reactions

Perla marked an icon and a milestone in our fandom. A standard of quality. You could say "it's as good as a Perla fic" and we all knew it was something worth reading.

PerlaNegra will always mean a whole world to me and this was one of her last works, I haven't had the chance to read it and I'm still sad about everything that happened, but... I'm more than sure I will enjoy this story, as well as it has always happened with each of her amazing works. 💖

[It was] Julie who inspired this project, it was her magic in her stories, in her tweets and in her messages.

Negative Fan Reactions

On February 25, 2021, PerlaNegra, in her personal Facebook account, posted regarding the harassment she had received on her Wattpad account and Twitter, due to younger fans discovering her age and that she was already "too old to write fanfiction" and the following support fellow fanwriters and followers of her gave her in response to this and she deleting all of her fanfictions on Wattpad. The support also took the form of a campaign by Acción Poética en Fanfiction, named "Las letras no tienen edad".[4]

Regarding my own age, on Wattpad there have been people who have felt strange when they realize it, but the biggest attack I received regarding this was on Twitter. There they took a tweet where I expressed my age as a reason for mockery. They retweeted it dozens of times laughing at me, calling me "chavo ruca", saying that if they were me they would be ashamed to call themselves shippers at my age, that I was the age of their mother and even their grandmother. It started with people from the HP fandom but was followed by many others from other fandoms. Very young people who haven't even been on tuiter for a year. [...]I came to the point of REPENTING that I had dedicated so many hours of my life to writing fanfiction, something I never thought I would feel. The desire to write (especially of the HP fandom) became equal to nothing. The inspiration and enthusiasm for fanfiction completely disappeared and I really started to feel old and without illusions. Like Lotso, something really died in me since that time.
