Reactions and Reviews
1986
... a very refreshing, very different story. Spock and Kirk do not know each other. Kirk is the new captain of the Enterprise, and Spock fears his life is changing in a negative way. He was close to Pike, like a son to a father, and feels he is isolated again. Each man, before duty, takes the evening off to try to relax and pull things together. Kirk goes one way, Spock another, but they find each other. There is a wonderful, realistic meeting and chat on a waterfront. They spend the night together, then, the next morning, on board the ship, the new captain and first officer "meet". Great story. [1]
1997
Spock’s outrage at having to serve under, as he puts it “A puppy captain. A child playing at command” is hilarious, especially seen in view of what happened later…. “He (Jim) found himself flat on his stomach, covered, penetrated, protected and embraced by a warm lusting hunk of Vulcan” end quote. Fun to read. [2]
