Omphale has been a writer in the due South fandom since 2006. She writes F/K mostly, couple of F/V, one F/K/V, and a few other pairings.

Writing style

Giulietta says of Omphale's stories:

"This is the bit where I have the tenderest of soft spots for one thing in any writing ever: rhythm. I love Shakespeare just because the rhythm in his words feels so damn good rolling off my lips. I like poetry and I like singing and I love O's fic. She mentions many, many times that music is very important to her writing, and I have to admit I instinctively knew that before she said so, because her writing has this wonderful pulse to it. It's especially fun to feel that pulse change depending on what's happening in the story. There's something visceral and intense that comes from that, that I really have never felt anywhere else." Notable Works

due South

  • A Problem of Memory (Fraser/Kowalski/Vecchio, Fraser/Kowalski implied, G). This is classic Omphale, written for DS Match '08. Absolutely gorgeous, sublime look at OT3, starting with Vecchio leaving Stella, told in thirds by Stella, Kowalski, and Fraser. Sounds complicated, but when you read it, you'll see it's not. Just because.
  • There's No Good Time to Discuss This (Fraser/Kowalski, PG-13). Omphale precedes this story by saying, "It's late, and I'm walking the fine edge of songfic, but I think I avoided it" -- because apparently songfic is a bad thing? This fic takes a Kowalski and Fraser who seem determined to stay apart and nudges them together. Layers and layers of depth in the characters' thoughts, delivered through parantheticals (which can be awkward in a story, but Omphale makes it work). Sweet, realistic resolution.
  • Masquerade (Co-authored with slidellra) This one comes with its own soundtrack. Which, the link for it is currently expired, but it's the principle of the thing. This was written for ds_harlequin and was based on the movie Charade(1963), starting out with Kowalski/Volpe and then throwing Fraser into the mix. Go. Read the giant novel-length fic, you know you want to.
