Muffet is a character from Undertale. She was designed by Michelle Czajkowski, creator of the webcomic Ava's Demon, as a high-tier Kickstarter reward.
Canon Overview
Muffet is the midboss of the Hotland area, accosting Frisk based on a tip from someone (implied to be Mettaton) that Frisk hates spiders. Her boss battle is skippable if the player either purchases a 9999G item from her Hotland bake sale, or uses an item bought from the Ruins spider bake sale in battle with her. The Muffet boss battle is notorious for being very difficult, and even Toby commented that he believed he had made her too hard, despite nerfing her multiple times in development. She will automatically spare the player after a certain number of turns have passed.
Muffet's goal is to raise money for a chauffeur service to transport spiders to and from the Ruins, as Snowdin is too cold for them to traverse on their own.

After the drama surrounding other backer character So Sorry, rumors began to spread that Muffet's relative prominence in the story amongst backer characters is due to favoritism on Toby's part. Toby and So Sorry's creator, Samael, have both commented that So Sorry was made a hidden boss encounter for fear of Samael being tracked down and harassed.
