Merlin Hot Recs is a Merlin recommendation community on LiveJournal. It was founded by marguerite_26 and since February 2012 it is run by rebeccaann08 and winterstorrm.[1]

The community is based on the daily_snitch's 'hot rec' category in Harry Potter fandom. It is a way to tell ‘fandom at large’ that a fic is well liked and maybe worth a look.

How this works:

If you know of a fic/art/vid that has received three publicly posted recs, PM a mod, email us at [email protected], or leave a comment on this post. We'll then post a Hot Rec (with full header information and a link to the fic) in this comm.

Include in your message:

  • Fic Title and Author
  • Link to the fic
  • Links to the three recs (recs must be publicly posted)

Rules:

- You can send in a hot rec for your own work
- Tumblr/twitter/Insanejournal/Dreamwidth recs do count as long as they are public [...]
- Inclusion in a rec list or newsletter does not count as a rec
- The recs must have been posted within the last three months
- Recs for WIPs can only be submitted once (while its a WIP) and once after it is complete
- If a fic has already been recced but you know of more recs for us, drop a note on that fic's post and we'll add the link to the list of recs [...]
Mod Note: Recs appearing here are not the personal recs of the mod. This comm is simply a 'signal boost' for recs that are currently 'hot' within fandom.[2]

The community accepts all fanworks, pairings and genres. However, as both mods are reccers, they have strict rules as to when one of their own recs can be included (only one mod rec between the two of them can count towards the three required recs, recs by one mod of the comm for the other mod don't count, and if a mod is modding or participating in a fest that is also a contest, that mod's recs cannot count towards the three required recs.[2])
