Minerva McGonagall is a character in the Harry Potter series. She is Harry's Transfiguration professor, Deputy Headmistress under Albus Dumbledore, and Head of House for Gryffindor while Harry is at Hogwarts. She had been teaching for over 35 years by the time Harry entered Hogwarts, and had also taught Harry's parents and their friends.

Fanfiction

Although stories that pair McGonagall off romantically are relatively rare, there are several people she's commonly paired with. Until the last book when it was announced that Dumbledore was gay, she was most frequently paired with Albus Dumbledore. She's also commonly linked with Severus Snape, and after the publication of Pottermore, with Elphinstone Urquart, her deceased Pottermore husband.

McGonagall is also a fairly popular femslash character, often paired with Rolanda Hooch, Poppy Pomfrey or other female teachers, Augusta Longbottom or Amelia Bones. The Pottermore canon has been criticised for heterosexualising her character.[2][3]

Minerva stories frequently appear in the HP Beholder Fest, where she is one of the most popular characters.
