Max Mayfield is one of the main characters of Stranger Things. She appears in a variety of fanworks.
Canon
Max moved to Hawkins in Season 2 and became an honorary member of "The Party" due to Dustin and Lucas's interest in her. She is one of the causes for her step-brother Billy's antagonistic behavior towards other characters.
In Season 3, she is dating Lucas and develops a friendship with Eleven.
In Season 4, she suffers the mental health consequences of Billy's death. She is Eddie Munson's trailer park neighbour. She is instrumental in the gang's attempts to bring down Vecna and is badly hurt in the process, dying before being brought back by Eleven's powers. As of the end of Season 4, she was in a coma with broken limbs and probable vision loss.

Post season 4, Steddie fanworks often portrayed her as Eddie's neighbour/friend. She is often portrayed as disabled as a consequence of the season's events. Future fic often mentions her wedding to Lucas.
