Bio
The following information from Mary appeared in the International Space: 1999 Alliance newsletter, Main Computer:
"I have loved good sci fi since i was a teenager, and when Space: 1999 came on three years ago, I watched because it's all there was except for Star Trek reruns. I kept watching because I enjoyed it. Year Two was even better. It is, for the most part, believable. The actors can act. They make you believe in and care about the characters."[1]
Personal Life
A resident of Gresham, Oregon, Mary was born on August 10, 1938. She was married to John Tchir, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and they had two daughters together. One of their girls, Jennifer Lynn, was born August 13, 1971 and died on July 3, 1987; a victim of the Forest Park Killer. John died in 1995 and Mary passed away on June 2, 2012 at the age of 73. All three are interred at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
Tchir is quoted in a newspaper article about new evidence potentially linking her daughter's death to the Forest Park Killer, Todd Reed:
Tchir's mother, Mary Tchir, said she had known all along that Reed was a suspect in her daughter's death and was glad the police had a case against him in the Forest Park slayings. "I am just thrilled", she said, "They've got him for something. Even if it's not my daughter, they have him for something."[2]
