Descendants

the more i think about maleficent in the descendants movie the more i like it because they could have decided to try and make her angelina jolie-esque amounts of serious, gloomy, mysterious, somber and threatening. but they were like ‘no, that doesn’t fit the tone of this dcom movie. instead, let’s hire broadway legend kristin chenoweth to portray a drunk aunt/child pageant mom/mom from mean girls/glinda version of one of the most powerfully sinister villains in disney canon, flouncing around using her evil scepter as a dancing cane,’ and it was a gift to humanity[1]
