Loveless is a fantasy manga by Yun Kōga with BL elements. After volume 13, published in 2017, the series is on an indefinite hiatus.

A 12-episode anime television series adaptation was made by J.C. Staff from was released April 7, 2005 – June 30, 2005.

One interesting aspect of the show is that it features canonical kemonomimi characters, who are born with (usually cat-like) ears and tails. When the person loses their virginity, the ears and tail fall off.

Canon Overview

12-year-old Aoyagi Ritsuka is approached by a young man on the first day of school. The name introduces himself as Agatsuma Soubi and says he was a good friend of Ritsuka's brother Seimei, who was murdered two years prior. He introduces Ritsuka to the world of Spell Battles, where couples sharing a "true" name face off with magical words, with one person acting as the Sacrifice, who receives damage, and one person as the Fighter who attempts to attack the other couple. Soubi says he was Seimei's Fighter and knows the organization behind his murder.

Fandom

Ritsuka/Soubi is the most popular pairing, along with Soubi/Seimei, Soubi/Kio and the incestuous ships Ritsuka/Seimei and Sagan Natsuo/Sagan Youji (the Zero Boys). As most of the characters are male, there is very little het or femslash. Given the premise of the series, fics featuring rape, non-con, and underage sex are extremely common. Trauma, PTSD, child abuse, and hurt/comfort are prevalent.

On A03, the scenario of Sacrifice and Fighters is used in fusion with other fandoms, such as Sherlock, Teen Wolf, and Captain America.
