Legend of the Seeker is a live action TV series based on Terry Goodkind's series of novels, The Sword of Truth. The series follows the adventures of Richard Cypher, Kahlan Amnell (and her glorious swishy hair: "WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH."[1]), and Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander as they try to stop the evil Darken Rahl. They are joined on their quest by former Mord'Sith Cara in the second season.
The official website for the show is Legend of the Seeker and additional production information is available at Wikipedia.
The Fandom
This article or section needs expansion. |
Legend of the Seeker does not closely follow Terry Goodkind's series The Sword of Truth, which by the time of the show's production had a sizable 11 novel collection. Many of the magical items or characters in the show are taken from any number of Sword of Truth books, often out of order. The first season attempts to follow the general arch of the first novel, Wizard's First Rule, with Darken Rahl being the main antagonist and the Boxes of Orden being the key to stopping him. The second season follows the second novel's general plotline, The Stone of Tears, wherein the Boxes of Orden created a tear in the veil between the World of the Living and the Underworld, ruled by the Keeper. Characters like Sister Nicci were introduced in Season 2 while only being introduced in the series' sixth installment, Faith of the Fallen, and many characters like Dahlia are completely fabricated for the show. Richard's boyish and sophomoric characterization in Season 1 of Legend of the Seeker is a main point of contention with most Sword of Truth fans, and the general fun-loving framework of the show is noted as being equally disagreeable to some fans of the novels. Overall, while Legend of the Seeker honored the book series as much as possible and was done with Terry Goodkind's full consent and blessing, it is more of a spiritual companion to the series than a true book-to-television adaptation. While there is some fandom crossover, many fans are staunchly either Team SoT or Team LotS.
Richard/Kahlan is canon, and a popular het ship. The introduction of Cara as part of the main cast led to a rise in the amount of femslash in the fandom; Kahlan/Cara is a popular pairing. Probably the most notable slash pairing is Richard/Rahl.
At least some of LoTS writers are aware of the fandom. A picspam recap of episode 2.13 by deej received a comment from (someone claiming to be?) the writer of the episode in question:
As the guy who wrote this episode, I gotta tell you, you made my -- week? Millennium? Geological epoch? I have this terrible fear that I am going to start writing things JUST SO THAT I CAN SEE HOW YOU RECAP THEM.
I joined livejournal just so I could tell you this.
With love from Los Angeles,
