Reactions and Reviews

1985

I'm a sucker for the long stories, too, and I enjoy this one a lot. It s a fascinating idea, this aristocratic background for Bodie, and I think the author makes it believable. Great love scenes, too. Good dialogue, good characters.[1]

1988

"Kind Hearts" is one of those variation-on-a-theme stories that portrays Bodie and Doyle not quite the way I conceive them. (I could never see Bodie being quite that insecure), but O. Yardley creates sensitive portraits of these characters that are quite enjoyable anyway; Bodie coming from an aristocratic background is a definitely intriguing prospect, and I was delighted that he was finally able to overcome his childhood trauma and that Nanny "got hers" in the end.[2]

1990

I just like the idea of Bodie being the black sheep of some noble family. [3]

1992

Those of you who have read 'Kind Hearts' will know what a good story it is. For those of you who haven't, ignore any ill-informed, adverse criticism that you may have seen: you are in for a treat when you do read the story.

Like all of O. YARDLEY's work it is well written, there will be no distractions in the way of bad spelling or grammar. The narrative flows smoothly, the plot unfolding through a variety of interesting situations and convincing dialogue, enhanced throughout by welcome touches of humour. As in all of her work, the characters of Bodie and Doyle are consistent with those of the aired series, and the other people are equally well drawn and quite believable.

There is no polemic, 'Kind Hearts' is what its author presumably intended it to be, an entertaining story which can be read and re-read with continuing pleasure. [4]

1993

I can't remember the seducer in this (gasp) but it probably was Bodie; and *again* Bodie suffers more; (though it is mostly embarrassment...) [5]

1994

(light; 1st half better than the second) [6]

1997

"Kind Hearts" - where Bodie turns out to be the scion of a ducal family and the lads are whisked away to investigate dirty doings in the family mansion; I won't soon forget the picture of a naked Doyle lying, deliberately seductive, on a four-poster bed with a dahlia between his teeth. Coo-er. [7]
