-Shipping Name Origin

"SpiceShipping" has been in use since at least 19 January 2017[Notes 1], quickly becoming their most used -shipping name. However, this was not considered their "official" ship name on the Neverending Romance ship name list for many years, considered the masterlist for all Pokémon ships ever conceived. Sometime between the beginning of November and 31 December 2016, NaheleAhiShipping was coined for the list,[Notes 2] a name rarely used by shippers.

On 20 January 2017, the discrepancy in the name was brought to the attention of esm8m, the curator of the list, who marked it as an alternative 'untouchable' name[1], which is a label given to unofficial but notable names, as the name SpiceShipping was already the name for Ginger/Hazel, a very rare but shipped pairing.[2] Any -shipping names on the list were considered used and irreplaceable during this time, thus Kiawe/Mallow would stay as NaheleAhi.

On 02 June 2021, Manqoba would make SpiceShipping the official name of both pairings.[3]
