The Kerth Awards are voted awards for Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman fanfiction. They are named for a fictional journalism award on the show.

History

The Kerths were founded in 1998 by Leanne Shawler and Pam Jernigan.[1][2] From the 1999 awards, they have been organised by the Kerth Committee, at first comprising Erin Klingler, Pam Jernigan and Kathy Brown, with Annette Ciotola joining a few years later. In 2005, the committee became Annette Ciotola, Kaethel, Yvonne Connell and Tricia Walpole, with Elena subsequently joining.[1][3] They are still ongoing as of 2016.

Process

All complete Lois & Clark stories published online during the preceding year are eligible. Stories are nominated by fans, usually in February, with the top four to six nominations in each category entering the ballot. Categories divide stories by length, genre and topic. Several categories are specific to Lois & Clark, such as Best Revelation. Stories can appear in Best Overall plus two other categories. Voting is usually held in March. The winners are announced at a live awards ceremony on IRC.[3]
