Katharine Shade (1970- ) is an Australian fan, organiser, writer, musician, newsletter editor and graphic designer.
She graduated from LaTrobe University with a Bachelor of Science in 1990 and the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Education in 1994 (Methods in Music and I.T.). She also has a music performance diploma: A.Mus.A.
I grew up being interested in science fiction very much from the science point of view, enjoying in particular what today's scientific endeavours would result in tomorrow... Take the science away from a science fiction story, and I am not interested.[1]
Austrek, The Captain's Log and Spock
Katharine became Secretary of Austrek in 1993. She ceased that role in 1994, and while remaining a committee member became editor of The Captain's Log, the newsletter of Austrek, with her first issue being #198 in January 1994. She resigned from the role in January 1996, her last issue #222.
She also edited and produced a number of issues of Austrek's fan fiction publication Spock.
Quantum Leap
Katharine also created The Leaper, newsletter of the Quantum Leap Fan Club in 1995-96. There were three issues produced: May 1995, September 1995 and January 1996.[2]
Star Walking Inc. and Skyforce
She was involved with the creation of Skyforce, the Melbourne social arm of Star Walking Inc. in 1994.

Frontier
In 1996, Katharine partnered with her friend and fellow former The Captain's Log crew Jeremy Sadler to create K&J Publishing, which published Frontier: The Australian Science Fiction Media Magazine. She served as editor for the entire publication run of the magazine until it closed in 2002.
Music
Katharine played cello in her ensemble "The Shade Quartet and Friends" at the Valentine's Ball in Melbourne, 1994(?), and also performed a song, accompanied by Brett Jones on Piano.
She appeared on a number of panels at conventions on the topic of soundtracks in movies and TV series, bringing her perspective as a classical musician with orchestral experience.
