Kadokura/Kirawus, known mostly as Kadowus and/or Kadokira, is a semi-popular pairing within Golden Kamuy fandom. The ship is between Toshiyuki Kadokura and Kirawus. Both are recurring, if somewhat minor, characters in comparison to the main players of the Ainu gold hunt, and they have been shipped since 2018.

Kadokura and Kirawus were originally introduced separately in the Golden Kamuy manga, with Kirawus first as a resident of his kotan and Kadokura later as the head jailer of Abashiri Prison.

The two met after Kirawus was hired by Toshizou Hijikata to be his squad's resident Ainu translator, (dubbed Hijisquad by fans.) Off-panel, the two became good friends and a duo soon afterwards. They are usually seen together than apart from this point forward.

In the manga's epilogue, it is revealed that the two traveled to America together along with the minor character Mansur and became failed movie directors.

Needless to say, Kadokura/Kirawus is by far most popular pairing for both characters, though Kadokura does have a common one with Tokishige Usami, forming Kadokura/Usami.

Common Tropes

  • Failboats in Love: Both Kadokura and Kirawus are some of the least intimidating and dangerous characters in the entire Golden Kamuy series. Sure, they have their badass moments, but it's not much when compared to everyone else. Generally, they are seen as useless by others in the Hijisquad.
  • Domestic Life: Both characters are on the older side, (high 30s-early 50s~?) And topics such as cultural customs, playing card games and eating together are all prevalent for fanworks.
  • Wistful Angst: Angst is pretty common in Kadokura/Kirawus fanworks, though it tends to be on the wistful, pining side rather than bruting. General fluff tropes such as cuddling and tickling are also incredibly common to boot.
  • Ossan's Mob: This is a phrase used in Japanese-speaking GK fandom to describe Kadokura/Kirawus. This comes from the word Ossan, which means old man, and mob, which comes from the idea of a minor character in a work of fiction. Since Kadokura and Kirawus are both older men who are minor recurring characters in Golden Kamuy, they are ossan and mob.
