Britta/Jeff is a popular het ship in the Community fandom.
In Canon
Jeff and Britta are canonical, in that they have slept together on multiple occassions[1][2] and publicly declared their love for one another[3], but they have never actually dated.
The first season of Community is full of Jeff/Britta UST - he formed the study group to just get to know her, even though the first words she spoke to him were "yeah, don't hit on me, okay"[4]. The first season's romantic plots revolve almost entirely around Jeff and Britta - first Jeff pursues Britta and she rejects him, then Jeff briefly dates a statistics professor (Michelle Slater), making Britta jealous. The two finally end up sleeping together late in the season, but agree that it didn't mean anything and shouldn't happen again. Two episodes later Britta confesses her love for Jeff on stage at a school dance. Jeff, of course, responds by making out with Annie in the parking lot. All in all, it's very bumpy ride.
Early in the second season, it looks like Jeff and Britta will continue to be the show's main romantic plotline. In the first episode of the season, the two compete to prove to the school gossip mill that they are the "good" one in the relationship by professing their love for one another, kissing in public, sharing a set of ear buds, and eventually getting married (although they don't actually go through with that last one)[3]. Unlike the first season, however, there is not a lot of focus on Jeff and Britta's relationship for most of the remaining season. Although they do make out once on Troy's birthday[5], and toward the end of the season it is revealed via flashbacks that they had been carrying on a sexual relationship the entire time[2].
By the third season, the canon seems to be focusing more on Jeff/Annie, but fans of Jeff/Britta still have a good amount of flirting and history on which to base fanworks.
In Fandom
Jeff/Britta is one of the major fan pairings on Community, but it is far less popular (in terms of number of fics and vids published) than the other major het pairing and the major slash pairing in the fandom, (Annie/Jeff and Abed/Troy respectively. Jeff/Britta was strong out of the gate in terms of fans, but support has declined over the course of the series as fans have embraced new ships featuring both Jeff and Britta - Jeff/Annie and Britta/Troy.
There's also a section of J/B shippers who hate Jeff/Annie and find it morally repulsive because of their age difference.[6][7] By January 2012, there were 19 Jeff/Britta fics on AO3 and 38 on Fanfiction.net. As of November 2020, there are 242 Jeff/Britta works on AO3. There is also a dedicated Jeff/Britta LiveJournal community, and numerous blog posts, picspams, and vids on Tumblr and YouTube.
