Janet F. Caires-Lesgold was a slash fan writer who began writing X-Files fan fic in the late 1990s, migrated to Smallville and Buffy fandom in the early 2000s and enthusiastically jumped into Supernatural fandom in the later 2000s. She helped organize the first WinchestMidwest Con Supernatural convention in 2007.

In Smallville fandom, she is perhaps best known for the Nourishment Series which is archived here.

She passed in July 2007. X-Files Lost and Found Message Board FAQ, Archived version

Her fandom journal is now in memorial status here and a separate memorial LJ community was set up here.

Memories

  • "I met Janet in 2001, through a Smallville Yahoo group. I can't remember what exactly we bonded over, but I think she offended someone by discussing Clex, and I came to her defense, and then we met up again in the ClarkLex Yahoo group. She was my first real online buddy in the fandom world, and she introduced me to LJ, to slash in general, and to RPS. Through Janet, I realized that I'm not the only sicko in the world who likes the idea of pretty boys getting it on. lol She was the first to show me slash fic, and the very first slash story I ever read was "A Handful of Dust" by Jenn. The second? The "Nourishment" series by Janet, though of course it had only just begun then. And the first RPS I ever read was also by Janet, and it scandalized me to know that people could write stories about real people! But I was hooked. Then I got a Livejournal account once she explained to me how it all works, and Janet taught me all the lingo and HTML codes, and I much prefer them to Rich Text."[1]
  • "I first met Janet back in 2001 through the ClarkLex Yahoo group. We started to exchange feedback emails about our respective stories soon after. When fandom began to migrate over to LJ I kept suggesting that Janet should give it a go and eventually she did. We've been on each other's f-list ever since despite our fandom interests diverging. Janet always said what she thought and I admired her for that. I'm grateful for the fact that she trusted me enough to include me on the filter that knew about the progress of her illness and I hope I was able to be of some support to her. I never got the chance to meet Janet in person though we'd always said we'd try to meet up if I happened to visit that part of the US again. Sadly that didn't happen. I'll miss her."[2]
  • "Janet was one of my first online friends. I met her through her stories, of course. Which I believe were archived on the old SSA site? Anyway, when I first started reading her journal, I'll have to admit... I saw her as a brash, outspoken person. Which she is. But the longer I read her journal, and commented/got comments, the more I realized that she was also a wonderful person, if very opinionated. But I wouldn't change her in any way. "[3]
  • "I knew Janet from back in the X-Files days, and through her membership in the YahooGroup "RATales". She was a regular contributor and always had something intelligent and thought-provoking to add to the conversations. She was a constant presence on the boards, and RATales was much better for it. From myself and all of us in the X-Files community, the deepest sympathies. She will be missed."[4]
  • "Anyway, Janet and I met on a mailing list devoted to David Duchovny... nine years, three fandoms, dozens of "imaginary" boyfriends and a gobzillion beta'd stories ago (as summed up inadequately here for her birthday last month). It was a gift to partner in the madness, squee over the gay porn, hear that laugh fill a movie theater, hang on the other end of the phone every Wednesday at 9, and infinite other things I still can't fathom putting in the past tense. This one specific adventure probably deserves a mention, still a favorite (even after her interest in Michael faded away). She'll always be my One in Five Billion, the bestest friend a girl could ever hope to find. (Wherever you are, babe, give the muses a kiss and a dance for me.)"[5]
