Reactions and Reviews
This is an excellent story about the unreasonable demands of officialdom, which is a favorite theme of mine. Yet I wonder about the future of K/S in a context where it must be kept secret. Is there a potential for blackmail? [1]
Agent D’Farignaight, appointed by a Federation commission to investigate the effect of close inter-personal relationships on command effectiveness, firmly believing that closeness amongst crewmates is detrimental to the operation of a vessel and having convinced Starfleet hierarchy, is holding his holy crusade onboard the Enterprise, making life miserable for everyone, in particular Kirk and Spock. What I don’t get is why Kirk and Spock simply endure it. Kirk must have some clout at high level and Spock, as T’Pau’s grandson, surely can have this ridiculous situation ended, especially because Kirk is his bondmate and Vulcan law forbids bondmates to be separated. Fear dictating their passive undergoing of D’Farignaight’s prying and taunts can’t surely be the reason? [2]
Impasse by Addison Reed is an upsetting story in that it presents a situation that deals with bigotry within the upper reaches of Starfleet and the Federation. I disliked the premise of the story, but I can't fault the very capable writing which evoked such a strong emotion in me... and it is a fairly happy ending. [3]
