Ika is an author, vidder and editor active in the Blake's 7 fandom. She was most active in the early 2000s.
Fanfiction
Ika's writing is known for its unusual and highly original slant on the B7 universe. She was prominent in introducing queer and left-wing readings of the series.[1][2] She often views canon through the lens of realistic original characters, such as Federation officer Siv Holland. Her work frequently features Blake, often paired with Avon. She is also known for writing femslash, a relatively rare genre in this fandom.[2] Well-known stories include:
- Awake And Find No – "...one of the best portrayals of Servalan I have seen. It's also clever in its themes of how technology can support and construct femininity" (Una McCormack[1])
- Obituaries: Roj Blake – "an obdurately leftist and extravagantly queer reading of the series" (Nova[2])
- With/Out Blake – "Totally believable portrayal of life in an oppressive society" (Sondra Sweigman[3])
Her work has been published in the fanzines, I, Mutoid, Sleer as Folk, Trooper Orac's Fantastic Plastic Army and TTBA, as well as on the Freedom City mailing list. Some of her writing is archived online at Archive of Our Own, Hermit Library, Hip Deep in Heroes and TTBA.
Zines
Ika co-edited the femslash zine Sleer as Folk (2002).
