Fucking hell, this is what i have been waiting for someone to write. You are so right. I am not a teenie fan, i'm the same age as Gerard and i find their music inspiring and thought provoking. No doubt people will take the piss because i'm "older" but i can truly say their music and what they have said have helped me alot. I'm not the person i was 4 years ago. I was really down on myself then and i'm now not afraid to admit that i had depression, i did cut (i'm so ashamed and will have to live with the scars)and i let people bullshit me about, but if someone can take one little bit from what they have done and change their life then fuck give them the credit for making that one bit of difference. It gave me the strength to change my life and i'm a more confident and definately happy person. I will always be grateful.

Emo, were told, stands for 'over emotional' or 'emotionally unstable'. Tell me who defines this tag? Possibly people who gave up on having any real emotions years ago. They apply it as a criticism to people who think, who care, who examine their life and want it better, stronger and reach for something that offers inspiration and hope.

Depression and needing something to help lead your progress to something better is nothing to do with age or social background or race or any of those stupid stereotypes that are pushed on us every day.

My Chem speak for a lot of people and have helped so very many, but I doubt that statements like this would sell so many news papers.

If the history is music has taught us anything, it's that some people will always believe that all the ills of the world are caused by whoever is popular at the time. You only have to look at how Elvis, The Beatles or The Rolling Stones were received by some at the time. Apparently, no lessons have been learned.

I hope My Chem know that their music and message has reached and helped so many. They have made a real difference to the people that need it. And long may they continue to do so!

The bullshit they put in the paper these days can't be trusted one bit, and those reporters really have no idea what they talk about. And it's not like the care whether they offend people or not, it's just their objective to get paid, and release some fucking scandal like this over and over.

I know people, who without MCR, would not be alive today. It's a fact, and I myself, would probably be a different person without them.

The MCRmy will always stand tall, and be there.

I just came across this and want to say as a mother of MCR's target demographic. I have never and will never believe that this band has done anything to promote suicide or violence and in fact may have saved my son's life. And as for the emo tag it originally was emotional hardcore but became this whole sub genre that the media created to pigeon hole a style choice. It is all BS music should always be about the music and not what stereotype we can fit it in to. Yes I am over 30 and yes I listen to MCR and everything else. I listen to music for the words and the rhythm. Maybe if society in general did the same they would get the message correct.Ok I think I need to get off my soap box now sorry.

I agree I hate how they choose to group us up because of the way we choose to look or act and I hate how people see it as a "new trend" where all these little wannabes see emo as the cool thing to do, so they go out pretend to listen to mcr or any other band deemed "emo" or "scene" and don't take any of the real meanings of these songs to heart. It disgusts me to see all of these kids cutting themselves because its something people think is emo, they see it as the new trend so they run out and buy the latest emo band album and claim they've always been huge fans with their gallons of black makeup and dyed black hair because its the cool thing to do. I hate that because of this trend people aren't taking these incredible bands serious, I can honestly say that mcr SAVED my life, NOT encouraged me to end it. If the media actually listened to gerards lyrics they would understand how beautiful and encouraging these songs are, how they basically tell u "hey, we were screwed up just like u but we got through it, and we know u can too." I really applaud your effort to show people that our music isn't a lost cause and that those of us that r true fans can help and save this music, thanks for writing this

You are completely right, you put into words what has been going though the minds of so many of us true My Chem. fans. What the media is doing is wrong, they are judging like they are blind and deaf. If every person that committed suicide, was considered to do so because of the music they listened to then there would be very few music artist that didn't cause suicide. The only reason they are exploiting MCR is because of how they look, they look like they are "the stereotypical emo" so that is what the media judges them to be, they take in dark clothes and assume that this band is reason that girl committed suicide, do you think that there were looking at the other factors of the girl's life? Probably not. If only they took the time to actually listen to MCR's lyrics they would find that My chem saves lives instead of ending them.

In all fairness, from an outsider's perspective, I guess I can somewhat understand why someone would oppose a band after hearing all sorts of horror stories about how the music engendered this kid to do this, whatever 'this' happens to be. Bond's suicide, for example. But the other side of that is, people shouldn't just automatically assume that it's true just because someone else insinuated it. Likewise, people need to stop blaming everything on the music. Because despite what everyone seems to think, music very rarely ever is what pushes a kid to do something bad, much less FORCE them. I'll be the first person to say that music is a very powerful thing and can affect a person greatly, positively or negatively, but it does not, CAN not, FORCE them to do anything. Every time a kid kills other people or commits suicide or something like that, where's the first place people look for an explanation? Not the kid's home life, not the kid's social life, not any possibly mental disorders--no--they go through the kid's iPod. "Uh oh, THIS band was on there, that explains it! SOUND THE ALARM!" Only after it's been confirmed that there's nothing more on there than Rihanna and the Jonas Brothers, such 'decent music' (which I personally find to be extremely depressing for reasons I won't go into here), can we begin to examine other possible causes.
