A hybrid is a supernatural creature specific to the Vampire Diaries/The Originals mythology and a crucial concept in fanworks connected to the character of Klaus Mikaelson.
While Vampire Diaries canon has a firmly established rule that a character can only ever occupy one supernatural position (they can either be a witch or a vampire, never both), hybrids are the only exception. They are werewolves turned into a vampire, who drink the blood of a Doppelganger during their transition (later it is revealed that the blood of Hope Mikaelson has similar effects).
Hybrids combine the strenghts and some weaknesses of both vampires and werewolves. They can turn into wolves without the full moon.
