Yamada Hizashi, also known as the hero Present Mic, is a supporting character of the shounen manga and anime series Boku no Hero Academia by Kōhei Horikoshi.

Canon

Hizashi is Pro Hero and an English teacher at U.A. High School. He also hosts a radio show.

Hizashi attended U.A. High School and was in the same class as Aizawa Shouta.

Quirk

Voice: Hizashi can increase the volume of his voice to extremely high levels. This often takes the form of a sonic scream, which has been shown to be strong enough to make people's ears bleed from far away.

Deaf!Mic

Hizashi is often depicted as deaf as a result of not being able to control his quirk well as a child, which is a common circumstance in the world of Boku no Hero Academia. Hizashi is also often depicted as knowing sign language and/or using hearing aids. Another common theme is Hizashi as causing his parents to go deaf from his quirk, or his parents giving him up for adoption and a deaf person or couple adopting him .

Married Erasermic

Fanworks often depict Hizashi as being married to Aizawa Shouta . When combined with Aizawa being depicted as the adoptive father of Shinsou Hitoshi and/or Eri, this family is referred to as the "Erasermic family".

Villain!Mic AU

One popular AU involving Present Mic is the Villain!Mic AU, where instead of being a pro hero, he is a villain. Oftentimes, he is still depicted as romantically involved with Aizawa, who may be a hero still, a civilian, or even a fellow villain. Villain!Mic is often depicted as having red eyes like in the manga, as opposed to the greenish-yellow of the anime. In particular, Corndog-patrol on Tumblr's Villain!Mic AU is a popular one.

Traitor!Mic

Hizashi is sometimes a candidate for the U.A. traitor theory . As of June 2020, Traitor Yamada Hizashi | Present Mic is the fourth most prevalent among the Traitor tags on Archive of Our Own, and the most prevalent U.A. staff member among them .

Relationships

• Yamada Hizashi/Aizawa Shouta, aka Erasermic: Hizashi and Aizawa were in the same class while attending U.A. and it was Hizashi who came up with Aizawa's hero name, Eraser Head. They are shown to be close in canon, and their contrasting personalities provides for much appeal in fanwork.
• Yamada Hizashi/Aizawa Shouta/Shirakumo Orobo, aka Erasercloudmic: since the character and history of Shirakumo was introduced in the manga it has been popular to explore the relationship between these three characters, either romantically or as friends.
• Yamada Hizashi & Kayama Nemuri: Along with Eraserhead, there is a lot of fanwork exploring the friendship among these UA teachers, often imagining them as classmates at UA.
• Yamada Hizahsi & Class 1-A: there are also a lot of fanworks focusing on Present Mic's teaching skills and mentorship of class 1-a, either as a group or with specific characters. Usually the main focus characters such as Midoriya Izuku and Bakugou Katsuki, but some fics draw on characters such as Jirou Kyouka's or Kaminari Denki's similar quirks and interest in music to explore a mentorship relationship between Present Mic and these students.
