Tokyo (born October 12), known by her[1] online persona Miss World 1993, or mononymously as Henkity (KR: 핸키티, often stylized as "henkity"), is a Chinese-Japanese experimental artist, designer, drag queen, and comedian. Henkity is best known for her extensive critiques of found art and fashion works, shows and exibitions, her contribution in trends creation on Kpop Spam Instagram, as well as her ongoing experimental visual and visceral series such as #핸나나 (RR: Hennana, short for 헨키티의 나잇 나잇!, lit. Henkity Night Night[2]), #Perestroikity, #HenkityDiaries, #AShirtForALyric, and her newest series #HausOfHenkity, where she reviews runway shows of emerging fashion designers[3]. Henkity made her official debut in K-spam Instagram on November 2018 and launched her official fanclub Hencity[4] on June 2020.

Other Online Personalities

1993 (2020-)

Henkity created the online persona Miss World 1993 in 2020 on Tumblr, shortly following the deactivation of her previous persona Escape Couture. When creating her persona, Henkity stated that she was inspired by a joke made by Beardyman and the ironic fallacy of beauty standards set by non-LGBT beauty pageantry[5], and thus added "Miss World" along with her username "1993", which was favorite artist and designer Alexander McQueen's debut year[6]. Henkity is not affiliated with the real Miss World 1993 Lisa Rene Shanti Hanna, but has acknowledged the existence and effort from the Jamaican winner. Henkity has also stated that coincidentally, the real Miss World 1993's predecessor Julia Kourotchkina (RU: Юлия Курочкина) has a daughter named Katya[7], who shares the same name with Henkity's favorite drag queen[8]. Miss World 1993, in Henkity's words, is a "cornucopia of interests that have overtaken [her] life"[6]. Miss World 1993 is known for her Q&A panel "Bra from 1993".

infectica (2016-)

Infectica, also known in 2022-2023 as "Whore of Nazareth" (stylized with capitalization), inspired by the Biblical figure Mary Magdalene, which she has claimed as her "no. 1 muse"[9], "PartyNauseous" (stylized with capitalization), which was most likely retrieved from pop singer Lady Gaga's 2012 unreleased song of the same name[10], and most recently as "Mary Magdalene on Acid" (stylized with all-lowercase)[11]. Henkity stated that the username infectica is derived from the coinage of words "inception", "imperfection" and "erotica". No further explanation has been made regarding the origin of the name.

Escape Couture (2013-2020, 2023-)

Henkity created Escape Couture in 2013 on Tumblr, following the website's boom in popularity after being acquired by Yahoo!, initially as a platform to upload her music, but has continued to post about her other interests including fashion and K-Pop. Escape Couture is most known on Tumblr for uploading atmospheric instrumental tracks from music made by the K-Pop boy group BTS (Korean: 방탄소년단; RR: Bangtan Sonyeondan; lit. Bulletproof Boy Scouts) under past aliases including orul82, hopewrld, mapofseven and isnevercool[12]. In 2020 Escape Couture made a sudden post amidst the COVID-19 pandemic announcing the upcoming and immediate decision to deactivate her account, due to "reasons that affect [her] mental health"[13]. Escape Couture disappeared from Tumblr for three years before resurfacing in March 2023, with the majority of her K-Pop and RuPaul's Drag Race related posts removed and only five out of thirty-seven of her instrumental tracks remain[12]. Escape Couture has yet made an announcement addressing her return and potential release of more instrumental tracks.

Drag

Henkity is known in her local drag scene as Kerosene (stylized as KEROSENE!) and has been spotted performing and emceeing at multiple local Cabarets. When creating her drag character, Henkity stated that she was largely inspired by "experimental art pop musicians such as Björk, David Bowie, Grimes and Yves Tumor"[12]. Kerosene is known for her theatrical drag couture and for pushing the boundaries of drag performance art. Her performance usually include mash-ups of famous dialogues from films and high-energy and intense music numbers often with underlying storylines with songs by artists such as Lady Gaga, Grimes and Ghost.
