Cabaret is a 1966 musical about Sally Bowles, an English performer at a German nightclub, and her relationship with American writer Cliff Bradshaw during the early 1930s in Berlin.
Cabaret is a staple in the western musical canon and many of its roles are "dream roles" for performers. As a result many famous names have been part of the show over the years. The original production starred Joel Grey as the Emcee; the 1972 movie starred Grey again, and Liza Minelli as Sally (for which they both won Academy Awards). A very popular Broadway revival in 1998 starred Alan Cumming as the Emcee and Natasha Richardson as Sally. It was revived again in 2014, again with Alan Cumming. Other fan-favorite cast members have included Neil Patrick Harris, Raul Esparza, Adam Pascal, Judi Dench, Molly Ringwald, Susan Egan, Emma Stone, and Michelle Williams. Many fans have filmed performances by these actors and shared them.
