Excerpts

When did you start writing x-files fan fic?

I started back in June of this year, I think. I hadn't been watching XF long, but I just loved the possibilities I saw for those two characters.

Would you ever let Mulder and Scully become involved in your stories and why?

I kind of dance around their relationship in much of my work. It's no question that they love each other, but I often think that sexual love has little to do with it as far as they're concerned. Most of my work has Scully involved with someone else--Mike Wiebold from DEMONS is my favourite so far--though I actually wrote a whole series where M&S get married and leave the FBI, just to get the idea of them together out of my head. I think I've exorcised that demon now, so don't look for them to be together again anytime soon.

Have you written any other type of stories besides x-files fan fic?

I've written almost everything, I think. Doc Savage (30's pulp fiction), Star Trek, Doctor Who. I'm working on a series of short stories that I'm trying to get published right now. They're really just fiction--nothing wierd or paranormal about them.

What do you think is your best story so far and why?

Ouch... Best story... Well, in terms of response, it would have to be Solitary. I still get messages from people who are just picking it up on the archive. It is pretty good. I think it had a nice, tight story line, with lots of angst, and a necessary twist to it. I think, though, that I enjoyed writing Ahab most. It really helped me work through some stuff when I needed it to, and the response on that one was enormous as well. I guess those two are my favourites so far.

What was/were the hardest thing you've found so far about writing X-Files fan fic?

Oh, Mulder, definitely. I find Scully fairly easy to write, because I can understand her. A woman in a man's world, top of her field, but unappreciated for it--that I can deal with. Mulder *seems* more transparent, but that just makes him harder. You can think that you've got his motivation down-pat, and suddenly you read the scene and realise it's all wrong. I just can't seem to get him right sometimes.
