Generation VII Pokémon games include Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon and their sequels Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, remakes of Generation I (Pokémon) games, also released this generation.
The most popular ship this generation is Gladion/Selene (LonaShipping). This ship is also called MahinaShipping and GladMoon. Other popular ships include Lillie/Selene (MoonLilyShipping), Professor Burnet/Professor Kukui (DreamZShipping), and Gladion/Hau (CuteBonesShipping).
Other popular pairings, as seen on Archive of Our Own, are Hau/Lillie (SnowLilyShipping) and Gladion&Selene[1]. Other characters of note include Team Skull Leader Guzma, Aether Foundation Leader Lusamine, Team Skull Admin Plumeria and Kahuna Nanu. Guzma is popular for self-shipping works. Gladion&Lillie is common, as the two are brother and sister.
Pokémon Sun and Moon were ranked 5th in Tumblr Fandometrics' Year in Review 2016 for most reblogged Video Game fandom that year. In 2017, it was ranked 16th.
Generation VII Fandom
Because of the cast of this generation, where most of the "gym leaders" are trainers the same age as the protagonist, ships tend to sway towards younger characters more-so than other generations. However, as this generation introduced Nanu, ships involving him fulfill the older character niche quite nicely. Guzma is this generation's breakout character, and he is considered a high-level Tumblr Sexyman[2].
In Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Team Rainbow Rocket was introduced. This featured all the antagonists from past games, from Giovanni to Faba, working together under Giovanni's influence to cause trouble. Though, this alliance does not last long. This created a new-found want to have the villains interact with one another, whether willingly or not, and a new sub-culture within Pokemon fandom formed around just the villains. Faba can also be considered a Tumblr Sexyman[3]. So can Lusamine[4].
