Garnet is one of four main protagonists of the TV series Steven Universe. She is a member of the Crystal Gems.
Canon
Garnet is the fusion of Ruby and Sapphire and the current de-facto leader of the Crystal Gems. Garnet is one of the last surviving Gems on Earth who joined the Crystal Gems in the rebellion against the Gem Homeworld, and afterwards assisted her friends in protecting the Earth over the next millennia. After Rose Quartz gave up her physical form to give birth to her son, Steven Universe, Garnet took over as the leader of the group.[1]

Commonly accepted fanon and tropes
- Referring to Garnet as "Square Mom" (because of the shape of her afro).
- Often portrayed as the child of Ruby and Sapphire in Human!AUs.
- Remixes and mashups of Garnet's "Stronger than You" song from the season 1 finale are very popular.
Shipping
Season 1 had most of the Crystal Gems being paired with each other, however Garnet/Pearl gained popularity early on as the two were often seen standing arm-in-arm. Pairings with Garnet became less common once she was revealed to be the fusion of Ruby and Sapphire as some fans focused on those two characters, rather than Garnet herself.
