Ruby is a character from Steven Universe. When fused with Sapphire, Ruby forms the character Garnet, who is the de-facto leader of the Crystal Gems. Ruby and Sapphire are canonically portrayed as being in a monogamous romantic relationship. They ultimately had a wedding ceremony - one of the first F/F weddings depicted in mainstream American animated programming.
The hierarchical society of the Gem Homeworld disapproves of fusions between different Gem types. Rubies are implied to be relatively low-ranking Gems who serve primarily as foot soldiers, while Sapphires are high-status. Ruby and Sapphire's relationship was therefore particularly taboo, leading Garnet to defect from Homeworld to join Rose Quartz's rebellion.
Garnet is a main character in the show and was introduced well before she was revealed to be a fusion. As both Ruby and Sapphire typically prefer to remain fused unless stress or conflict causes them to de-fuse involuntarily, Ruby appears relatively rarely.
