Amethyst is one of four main protagonists of the TV series Steven Universe. She is a member of the Crystal Gems.
Canon
Amethyst is a member of the Crystal Gems. She is the last known Gem manufactured on Earth as a part of the Gem Homeworld's Kindergarten project, and one of the last surviving Gems on Earth. After being found by Rose Quartz and the other Crystal Gems, Amethyst helped her friends protect the Earth over the next four millennia, and often aids in the shenanigans of Steven Universe, Rose Quartz's son.[1]

Shipping
Season 1 had most of the Crystal Gems being paired with each other, Pearl/Amethyst gained popularity after the episode "Giant Woman" showed they could form the fusion Opal. Amethyst/Peridot became a very popular ship after the episode "Too Far" and since then Amethyst is shown to be the Crystal Gem that Peridot enjoys impressing and hanging out with the most.
Amethyst/Vidalia is also a notable ship after it was revealed they used to be very close and Amethyst used to be Vidalia's artistic muse.
