falloutboylove is "the first and largest Fall Out Boy community on LiveJournal."[1] It is a general discussion community, and posts cover a variety of topics, including past and upcoming concerts, band photos, merch, livejournal icons, and press coverage of the band. Although graphics and DIY craft projects were allowed in the community, fanfiction was not.

As of March 2022, the community has 10,501 posts; 183,683 comments; and 6,215 members.[1] The community was most active 2003-2007. By the time the band went on hiatus in late 2009, almost nobody was left to comment on it.

Effect of the band's popularity on the community

The community was created a few months after the band's first album, Take This to Your Grave, was released, but before the band appeared on MTV or played on Warped Tour. As the band gained more mainstream success, a few complaints were posted to the community:

  • "fall otu boy is on the abercrombie and fitch website. the end."[2]
  • "Yeah well, I 'heard' them first a long time ago, and now crappy little fake scenester kids are gonna be faux lovin' my favorite band!"[3]

However, other fans disagreed with this fear of mainstream popularity, arguing that fans should "just be glad they're making it big and they're doing as good as they are."[4]

In July 2004, basementsong turned on post moderation, following complaints that the community was being flooded with repetitive and low-value posts.[5] Some people had complained that the community was overrun with young teenagers who didn't care about the music and just thought Pete Wentz was attractive or were following a trend.[6] The mod pointed out that the complaints were also repetitive. "I'm just sick, and so are others, of their friends pages being flooded with 'Pete is so hot!' or 'Stop with the Pete posts!' or angry posts stemming off of that, or the way people treat this community like it's their personal belonging- some, not all."[5]

In March 2006, basementsong posted:

This is a reminder that this community is for ALL fans. Some members have been fans since before Fall Out Boy made it out of Chicago, some of us discovered the band yesterday. We do NOT judge based on how long you have been a fan, how "good" of a fan you are, if you discovered the band on the radio or MTV, or if you are a "teenie" or anything else ridiculous like that. We are ALL Fall Out Boy fans here. This is NOT an elitist community; if you want to make a "Pre-2006 FOB Fans Only" community or something of that nature and bash on new fans there, go right ahead. DO NOT do so here.[7]

Fourth wall breakages

Bandom was infamous for its lack of a fourth wall, and falloutboylove contains some of the evidence of contact between band and fans, as well as canon material later used in Panic! at the Disco fic.

Pete Wentz had at least two livejournals accounts according to bandfandom-ref historians: one called peteisacreep (later renamed ex_peteisacr991) from late 2003 to mid 2005 and a later one called ohoneohone.[8] He posted several times to the falloutboylove community.

His first post addressed fan complaints about the band "selling out" following news of them signing to a major record label, pointing out that the band was under extreme financial stress and that they had never been cool. As of 2022, the post has 11 comments, all supportive.[9]

He posted again in November 2003[10], in December[11], and multiple times in January 2004[12]. He also posted and commented in May 2004 about an incident at a concert the previous evening.[13][14] In a July 2004 post about genre labels, he said, "so i must admit sometimes we stop by to check out what our fans and friends have to say (yes we go on here, we are human) and i am very stoked on the communities you have built."[15] Pete posted several more times through early 2005.

In December 2003 a fan asked about what Pete's current livejournal account was, and then-unknown Ryan Ross was among the commenters, asking "is the old one still up? i'd like to read it".[16] Later Bandom fans described Ryan Ross as "stalking" Pete before Panic! at the Disco started.

Ryan also made an introduction post, which received 22 comments. Most of the comments were from fellow Fall Out Boy fans at the time agreeing to friend each other on livejournal, but a few comments were from Panic! at the Disco fans years later, expressing shock at discovering Ryan's teenage posts.[17] A year later Pete posted in the community asking for Ryan's email, which Ryan posted in the comments.[18]

HeyChris

In 2006 the falloutboylove community hosted part of what appeared to be a very public friendship breakup between Pete Wentz and HeyChris. HeyChris posted an "open letter" ranting against Pete to the community, among more personal matters accusing him of being a sellout who didn't respect his fans. The post received more than 400 comments.[19] Pete responded in a different space (also recorded and discussed in falloutboylove[20]), and the public exchange as a whole was later documented by fans in various places, including on tumblr where HeyChris reblogged it and added more thoughts.[21] The incident has also been written up as part of Pete/Mikey ship primers because HeyChris posted a followup claiming to have found "a new love" and posted pictures of himself embracing Mikey Way supposedly to taunt Pete.[22] As of 2022, a Twitter bot account dedicated to tweeting quotes from the livejournal post is still operating.[23]
