Reactions and Reviews

"Ever After" is a story that balances X-File with character development, deep friendship with UST, and pace with tone. Jill Selby generates an excitement in this story that will have you skimming just to find out what happens next. It's the length of a longer story, but the reading will be speedy. The story drops us into the middle of an investigation by Mulder and Scully into some murders at an archaeological dig. If I may be obtuse to protect the storyline, lives are quickly placed in danger and it becomes a race against time to see who will live and who will die. There's some excellent twists and turns along the way.

Mulder and Scully's interaction walks that lovely, all-encompassing line the show walks between friendship and romance. No hidden agendas here, the reader is left to make their own determinations. And the X-File is show-worthy; Jill does a great job of letting us know the history and details of the archaeology involved here without getting dry or giving us pointless exposition.

Jill posted this story in serial format to her web page, but the completed version came out on XFF and ATXC this past week. Give this story a read and Jill some feedback, because it's a great package.

There's nothing like a thrill-ride to kick off the Summer reading season...;) love, lore [1]

I concur! Go and read it. Unique paranormal theme, good timing, wonderful, stomach-churning tension. Almost makes me think you should read a part, wait a week, then read the next part. To savor the experience. [2]

Oh, no, Kip! Been there, done that. As one who was reading this story chapter by chapter, I do not recommend leisurely perusing it. It's far too great a strain to do it that way. My poor heart couldn't take it! In fact, as I recall, when trying to get Jill to crank up the muse (so to speak), my notes to her went something along the lines of: You're killing me.

(That's verbatim, isn't it, Ms. Selby?) This is one of those stories to sit down and immerse yourself in. All at once. Like a warm bath or a decadent quantity of chocolate.

Both of which sound rather good right now. But seeing as I am out of chocolate and it's too late to properly do the bath thing, maybe I'll just opt for one more reading of "Ever After." [3]

Seriously, I just feel the need to say that *anything* by Jill Selby is going to a top-rate, fabulous read. "Ever After" does not dissappoint. I know that I am already salivating over the idea of Jill's next endeavor. Don't make us wait, chica! [4]

Actually, I jumped on this thread after a week away from atxc (lots and lots of posts!), to add a hearty "Me, too!" "Ever After" is the first non-vignette piece of fanfic I've read in weeks, and it was worth the time I stole from the sandman. The images have yet to leave my head, and the original characters were three-dimensional and human. Beautifully done, Jill!! [5]

Anything and everything by Jill Selby as her stories are, as I may have mentioned, the absolute dog's bollocks <g> But I particularly adore Ever After because of the tenderness M and S show to each other. The ideal bottle ep. Someone show it to CC. [6]
