Escapade is a very popular One Direction (Harry/Louis) fanfic by dolce_piccante. It was published in five chapters all at once as part of HL Spring Exchange, a Harry/Louis fic exchange, on May 30, 2015. As part of the exchange, the author was originally anonymous. The fic currently has the highest hit and bookmark count and is the third most kudos'd One Direction fanwork on the AO3.[1]
In November 2015 it was announced that the fic had been picked up by a publisher (Dreamspinner Press) and would be released as a book in Spring 2016.[2] The book was published with the same title on April 11, 2016 and is available both in paperback and e-book format.[3]
Initially, the author intended to remove most of the fic from the AO3 after publishing, but it is still available to registered users.
Summary
In the grand scheme of things, finding a date for a wedding should be no problem for Louis Tomlinson. He's rich. He's handsome. He's reasonably well behaved. But when the wedding is for his lifelong best friend (and former boyfriend), and is happening in under a month, finding a date for the ceremony and accompanying festivities becomes more of an adventure than he ever could have planned for.
Harry Styles' character goes by the name "Jack McQueen" for much of the fic. This persona has his own Tumblr tag.
Reactions/Reviews
The heart of this fic is the characterization of Louis and Harry. They’re both incredibly likable people who still manage to have fully satisfying story arcs while entertaining and charming the pants off you (and each other). Angst is something for other fics, and honesty brings the “D,” right, ol’ Jack?!Another absolutely wonderful thing about this gem is this trope list:
Prostitute and non-prostitute – CHECK Fake boyfriends – CHECK Vacationing from real life and finding love – CHECK Those are basically my favorite tropes ever.[4]
Their dynamics are incredible, the way they interact with each other reminds me so much of them in real life, they care about each other so much, even when they might not be explicit about it, and i love that, i love how i could be able to feel the emotions even if they weren't described, i love that physical attraction and affection interlaced and danced together so much, i know of a fic where they only have sex and never kiss until their feelings for each other are verbalised, now this is kind of the other way round and it works AS WELL, it's incredible because i feel like you could work on any plot and make it so much better than it sounded like. … i honestly hope you'll be writing more HL because your writing brightens my mood, my days, it makes me feel so happy, i feel so inspired by it, by your characters and their relationship, because it's the perfect way of being with someone, not because everything goes smoothly but because there is an unspoken trust and affection that gives me so much energy and optimism.[5]
