-Shipping Name Origin

"WhiteNoiseShipping" was not initially coined as the ship name for Emmet/Piers on the Neverending Romance ship name list, considered the masterlist of all "official" ship names in the fandom. It was first coined sometime between 10 September[Notes 1] 31 October 2010[Notes 2] as the ship name for Elesa/Morty. While both characters are popular with fans, the name was thought to be unused since the ship has little to no fan activity.

On 06 April 2022, the name would be re-coined for Emmet/Piers by clockworkcheetah, being a play on white being a color associated with Emmet and 'noise' being associated with Piers.[1] "EmPierShipping" was coined around the same time, functioning both as a portmanteau and a -shipping name, with EmPiers by itself also being common. WhiteNoise slowly got adopted by shippers throughout the year, eventually becoming their most-used name.

While it was initially rejected from being added to Neverending Romance on 18 November 2022[2], it was added later down the line, sharing it with Elesa/Morty.
